why should I teach gymnastics at summer camp?

If you have experience in gymnastics or related areas such as cheerleading, this could be the perfect summer job for you.

Being a gymnastics coach is one of the most varied jobs at camp, as you’ll be teaching campers of all ages and abilities. This will allow you to plan dynamic and interesting sessions adapted for each group.

You’ll see your campers go from forward rolls to backwards flips, all thanks to your help, making the role of a gymnastics coach at camp incredibly rewarding. Plus, you can develop your skills in the sport you love, making you an even better gymnast.

what does a gymnastics instructor do at summer camp?

From tumbling on the spring floor to doing beam and bar tricks, and even practising trampolining skills, gymnastics coaches plan diverse programs for their campers, bringing out the best in them and making them more confident as gymnasts and people.

Gymnastics programs vary from camp to camp, with some teaching complete beginners, and other camps being specialised sports camps training experienced gymnasts. Whatever your skill level, there’s certainly something for you at camp.

How much experience do I need?

If you’re not the best in the world at your activity, there’s no need to worry - you’ll be teaching kids who are just there to have fun, most will even be complete beginners. You’ll be fully trained before your campers arrive, and you’ll be supported by the other counsellors at your camp.

How many children should I expect to teach?

Campers come down to sessions in divisions (age groups). These can vary in skill level, but usually are made up of 10-30 campers. You’ll then be paired with an individual camper or a group, and don’t worry - you’ll be supported by your fellow specialists and counsellors.

Do I still get days off?

Of course! Everyone needs time to recharge their batteries after an exciting but hectic week at camp, as well as the opportunity to explore the local area and further afield. Most camps will give you a 24 hour block of free time every week, whilst some others provide 2-4 days off in a row every few weeks.
